About the Role
The Lead AI Solutions Engineer will report to the Senior Vice President of Operations and own the full lifecycle of our internal AI tools and infrastructure — from the systems already in production to the governance framework that keeps them safe and the roadmap that keeps them ahead of the curve. This is a high-autonomy, high-visibility role for someone who can operate as both a hands-on engineer and a strategic owner: maintaining and hardening existing products, building the knowledge management platform that underpins them, and driving adoption and governance across the company. You'll be the single accountable owner for how AI is built, secured, measured, and scaled at Innovative Systems — partnering closely with department stakeholders, security, and leadership to deliver measurable business value safely and responsibly.
Location: Open to current Innovative Systems employees.
What You'll Own
AI Product Ownership- Maintain, secure, and evolve Chatty (our internal AI assistant), including its specialist agents and Projects features, with a clear feature roadmap
- Own the AM Weekly Snapshot workflow (Power Automate, Salesforce, Gong, Outlook), including monitoring and integrating new data sources (e.g., Teamwork meeting summaries)
- Manage the AI model lifecycle: plan for Azure model retirements/upgrades and validate output quality through model transitions
- Maintain documentation and runbooks so these systems don't depend on a single person
- Lead the platform that manages the documents feeding our AI tools — tracking verification/approval status, named owners and validators, applicable product versions, obsolescence, and review cadence
- Establish and run the protocol where department SMEs own and validate content, while you own the platform, ingestion pipeline, and process
- Build out the next phases: validation workflow, version tracking, and ownership model (document management and Azure AI Search ingestion are already in place)
- Formally implement and extend the NIST AI RMF-aligned governance framework across all internal AI tools
- Partner with IT/Security on data access and permissions, approved data-to-service mappings, prompt injection and data leakage protections, and network/identity configuration
- Define and run an oversight framework (with a governance partner) covering usage, adoption, response quality, time saved, and business outcomes
- Produce regular (bimonthly/weekly) reporting to leadership on what's working, what isn't, and where to explore next
- Build out an intake process for AI requests, including prioritization by value/effort and a visible roadmap
- Partner with departments to identify needs and build or adapt tools to meet them
- Run ongoing AI safety and education sessions; develop onboarding materials and practical usage guidance
- Build and engage a network of AI champions across departments
- Track new models, Azure AI Foundry capabilities, and the broader AI landscape; maintain the Microsoft relationship
- Run prototypes to test new technology feasibility and deliver clear proceed/stop recommendations
- Continuously improve existing workflows and pipelines as new capabilities emerge
- Monitor and optimize Azure AI consumption and AI licensing spend; forecast costs as adoption scales
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience building, maintaining, and securing production AI/ML applications (chat assistants, agents, automation workflows)
- Hands-on experience with Azure AI services (Azure AI Search, Azure AI Foundry) and Microsoft Power Platform (Power Automate)
- Familiarity with AI governance frameworks (NIST AI RMF or equivalent) and AI-specific security risks (prompt injection, data leakage, access control)
- Experience designing data/knowledge management systems (ingestion pipelines, ownership models, content lifecycle management)
- Strong track record of cross-functional stakeholder engagement — translating business needs into technical solutions
- Comfort operating with significant ownership and ambiguity: this role blends engineering, governance, and program management
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including reporting to leadership
- Experience training or enabling non-technical users on AI tools is a plus
